According to the latest Speedtest® Global Index report from internet analysis firm Ookla, the Philippines ranks the fifth fastest internet in Southeast Asia. We’ve been using PLDT for more than a decade now and have no plans of changing because of the fact that for years, we’re enjoying faster internet at home.

“The Philippines has been steadily climbing in the rankings on the Speedtest Global Index,” said Sylwia Kechiche, principal analyst at Ookla. “This is on account of the Philippine operators’ investments to modernize and upgrade their copper infrastructure and the active migration of customers to fiber, as well as connecting many first-time users.”

The Speedtest Global Index from Ookla is a ranking based on the median download speed that users experience with their internet connections, which more accurately reflects the speeds they are likely to receive.

“The Philippines’ continuous rise in the Speedtest Global Index is a result of the long-term investments and hard work of all the telco operators in the country. At PLDT, we reinforce our commitment to provide the best customer experience and power homes with future-ready innovations,” said Jeremiah de la Cruz, PLDT Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Business – Home.

PLDT was awarded as the fastest fixed broadband service provider at Ookla’s Speedtest Awards™ for Q1-Q2 2022. It logged the fastest results with a Speed Score™ of 77.91, with a peak download and upload speed of 210.83 Mbps and 234.21 Mbps, respectively. These figures were aggregated from millions of user-initiated speed tests on Ookla’s platform.

Fastest and Widest network in PH

PLDT’s improved services are the direct result of its major investments for its broadband infrastructure.

As of end-June 2022, PLDT has further expanded its fiber infrastructure to over 837,900 kilometers and total fiber capacity to 6.72 million ports, reaching over 16.2 million homes.

Last July, PLDT launched its US-Transpacific Jupiter cable system, which is expected to boost its international data transfer capacity by allowing higher speeds of up to 60 Terabits per second. Meanwhile, its robust domestic cable system has a capacity of 55 Terabits per second, allowing for greater connectivity across the country’s over 7,000 islands.

PLDT is also the only telco provider in the Philippines that can provide a fiber-optic service with speeds of up to 10,000 Mbps, the fastest possible broadband connection available in the country.
